Meet Tamlyn Naomi Tomita (born January 27, 1966), an American actress of Japanese descent. She kicked off her career as Kumiko in The Karate Kid Part II (1986) and brought the character back for the streaming series Cobra Kai (2021). She’s also known for playin’ Waverly in The Joy Luck Club (1993). Other flicks on her resume include Come See the Paradise (1990), Picture Bride (1994), Four Rooms (1995), Robot Stories (2003), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), and Gaijin 2: Love Me as I Am (2005).

Tamlyn’s been in a bunch of TV shows too, with recurrin’ roles in 24, Glee, Teen Wolf, and How to Get Away with Murder. She starred in the Epix drama Berlin Station (2016) and started poppin’ up in the ABC medical drama The Good Doctor in 2017. In 2020, she had a recurrin’ gig in Star Trek: Picard. Thanks to her tight friendship with Ming-Na Wen, Ming-Na scored the role of Fennec Shand in several Star Wars projects.
